My sweet girl is eight years old. She is still a whole lot of sugar, a pinch of spice, and everything about her is nice.
To commence, I took her out to lunch the day before her birthday, where she ordered her favorite: pepperoni pizza.
On the morning of her birthday, with snowy weather, we skipped soccer games and opened presents.
She wanted a "Llama" themed birthday party this year, and I think we pulled it off.
This was the first year she invited her own friend list...school friends and soccer team friends only, she insisted (oh, and cousins, of course...)
Anna, River, Annaliese, Emma Rose, Sophia, Caroline, Haley, Ansley, and Lily |
Emma Rose REALLY wanted Twister for her birthday. So the girls played for the winning prize of a Llama keychain!
Next, they did a Llama craft...
... Followed by a Llama photo-shoot...
Of course they beat a Llama pinata to death...
Emma Rose had a fantastic birthday, but I am ready for time to slow down a bit...
Again, I wrote her a letter to remember the past year. Here is part of it...
To
my dear, sweet Emma Rose,
How
it seems like only one short year ago (not eight!) that I was pacing with
contractions, waiting for Grandma to come up and take care of Porter so that I
could go to the hospital and meet you. I
remember reading to Porter as I screamed through labor pains, fearing that I
would never be able to love you as much as I loved Porter. My goodness – that was that a stupid fear! I
have fallen so much in love with you over the past eight years. I love you more
and more every day of your life....You are kind and you care so much for the
goodness and wellbeing of others. You
always stand up for the “little guy.” You are creative and artistic. For Christmas this year, you wrote four
unique (and hilarious, and thoughtful) stories for your dad, for Porter, for
your grandparents, and for me…you spent hours writing, illustrating, and
wrapping each one up. So telling of your character. You have such a gentle,
sensitive soul and you truly strive to make sure that everyone is happy.
Some
of your favorite things to date: You LOVE horses and you study the ones we pass
each day to and from school. Any chance
you get to pet a horse – or ride one – you are thrilled. You also love llamas (you are having a
llama-themed birthday party this year!), narwhals, and all animals (stuffed or
live) in general. While you love playing
with your Breyer horses, your Legos, and sometimes trucks with Porter, you
spend countless hours writing songs, coloring, painting (with your little
tongue sticking out), and reading. You have become an excellent skier, and you
continue to thrive in soccer. You and
Porter have fun watching various youtube episodes – you love “Jacy and Kacy” –
and you love to look up shows about horses. Often, while Porter and Daddy watch
“Gold Rush,” you and I watch “Once” together.
Porter bought you an Alexa for Valentine’s Day this year, and your “hit
list” includes songs by Lauren Daigle and Meghan Trainor. Some of your favorite foods include cheesy
chips, corn, whole Honey Crisp apples, and Marcos pizza. You also LOVE Oreo blizzards from Dairy
Queen...
...Emma
Rose, your care for others, and your love for your family has been so touching
and inspiring. I really mean it when I
said that I tell people that I don’t know what I did for God to give me a girl
like you – you just make my heart smile. Thank you for being my girl. I love you so
much.
Love, Mommy
--> -->
Happy Birthday, sweet girl.
